Description
This short 34 minute film explores the history of berry picker cabins on Bainbridge Island, who lived in them, and the cultural legacy they hold today.
The stories are told from the memories of Filipino, Indipino and Japanese (now adult) farm children who grew up picking berries alongside the First Nation families who came from as far as Vancouver Island, Canada every summer.
The film captures the interdependence of Japanese and Filipino farmers on one another to share berry pickers, tools and agricultural resources and the traumatic impact of the forced Japanese incarceration on the Island community. It is a touching story of community, hardship, loss, love of the land and a time gone by.
